Finding an upscale, friendly place to brunch just behind Port Authority doesn’t seem like an easy thing to do. There aren’t a lot of attractions in this area, but it’s worth the trip to to discover 44 1/2, a bright and modern restaurant where you can also have a seat at the bar or in the nice Japanese garden on a sunny day.
First, the staff is friendly, welcoming and very efficient. Secondly, the brunch menu offers a large selection of healthy food. Finally, plates are well presented and portions plentiful. You’ll want to order everything !
Blueberry pancakes ($12), brioche french toast, with spiced apple, mascarpone and fresh fruits ($14), Bruce’s omelett with goat cheese, aspargus, tomato confit and homefries ($13), parmesan scrambled eggs with smoked bacon ($13), salmon plate bagel with vine-ripened tomatoes, capers and cream cheese ($15). Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed.
It might be off the beaten path, but this is a great place to have brunch while avoiding the mob scene of some New York City eateries.
Brunch at 44 1/2 – $25/$40
